Welches Protein bindet Calcium?

Calmodulin (CaM) ist ein Calcium bindendes regulatorisches Protein, welches in allen Eukaryoten hochkonserviert vorkommt. Calmodulin spielt als Second Messenger eine wichtige Rolle, indem es selbst nicht enzymatisch aktiv ist, sondern für die Aktivierung anderer Proteine verantwortlich ist.

Warum bindet Calcium an Calsequestrin?

Calsequestrin ist ein Calcium-bindendes Protein in Muskelzellen von Wirbeltieren. Es findet sich dort in den terminalen Cisternen des sarkoplasmatischen Reticulums (SR). Pro Molekül kann es 65 Ca2+-Ionen mit geringer Affinität binden. Durch die Bindung an Calsequestrin werden die Ionen aus dem Gleichgewicht entfernt.
