Nein. Unser Körper stellt selbst Ketone her.

Can you measure glucose and ketones together?

Measuring both glucose and ketones together makes sense as you cannot usually use one measurement to infer the other, mainly because glycogen (which we can’t easily measure) sits in the middle. For example, having low glucose does not necessarily mean you have elevated ketones—your body may be burning stored glycogen instead.

Why are ketone bodies not converted to glucose?

Ketone bodies are produced in the liver but are of no use to the liver. This is because the liver does not have an enzyme called thiotransferase. Without thiotransferase the liver cannot convert ketone bodies to energy. All the the fuel sources; carb, protein and fat are metabolized to form glucose through different processes listed above.

What is the glucose ketone index (GKI)?

However, you may not know that there’s a more accurate measurement called the glucose ketone index (GKI). This ketone levels chart is a simple calculation that allows you to find out how ketosis works best for you individually.

What are ketones and how do you get them?

Everyone has some level of ketones in the body, even without being in ketosis [ * ]. There are three types of ketones: Ketone bodies are produced when you drastically cut carbs from your diet and your body stops getting sufficient levels of glucose. Glucose is your body’s primary fuel source when not in ketosis.
