Warum DNS als Transportprotokoll UDP verwendet?

Ist die DNS-Namensauflösung jedoch durch Paketverlust gestört, sind alle weiteren Prozesse ebenso betroffen. DNS ist daher in vielen Fällen die Ursache für Fehler und Ineffizienz. Als Transportprotokoll verwendet DNS primär UDP (User Datagram Protocol) und damit ein nicht verbindungsorientiertes Protokoll.

Welche Dienste nutzen UDP?

In der Regel wird UDP für Anwendungen und Dienste verwendet, die mit Paketverlusten umgehen können oder sich selber um das Verbindungsmanagement kümmern. Typisch sind DNS-Anfragen, VPN-Verbindungen, Audio- und Video-Streaming.

Warum werden Ports reserviert?

Das Sperren von Ports wird von einigen Internet Service Providern eingesetzt, um unerwünschte Dienste zu blockieren. Bei Providern können Dienste beispielsweise unerwünscht sein, weil sie sehr viel Datenverkehr verursachen, wie beispielsweise beim Filesharing.
