Was macht das Cytoplasma?

What function does the lysosome have in a cell?

Lysosome Function. The main function of lysosomes is to help with cell metabolism by ingesting and dissolving unwanted parts of the cell, cell debris or foreign substances that have entered the cell.

How does the lysosome digest waste products?

Once the acidic pH is established, the lysosome can digest cell waste products, old cell parts and other debris. To ensure that cell fragments, foreign objects and cell debris are digested while healthy parts of the cell are not attacked, the redundant components are tagged with specific chemicals that identify them as targets.

What happens if lysosomes are too small?

A. The lysosomes are too small to contain the large molecules that they normally can break down. B. Enzymes are not packaged into the lysosomes in the Golgi apparatus correctly. C. Deficiency in one hydrolytic enzyme in lysosomes leads to a buildup of large molecules, eventually killing the cell.

Who discovered lysosomes in cells?

Lysosomes were discovered by a Belgian biologist, Christian de Duve, and was awarded a Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in the year 1974. He is also known for the discovery of other cellular organelles known as peroxisomes. What type of cells possesses lysosomes? Only eukaryotic animal cells contain lysosomes.
