Hierzulande ist diese besondere Frucht recht unbekannt und schwer zu bekommen. Sie stammt ursprünglich aus Westafrika und wird auch in der Karibik angebaut. Sie schmeckt nussig und hat ein mildes Aroma. Die Akee enthält viele wichtige Vitamine und Nährstoffe, vor allem wertvolle Fettsäuren.

Akee ist ein hervorragender Lieferant für folgende Vitamine Die Akee trägt viel Vitamin E in sich. Sie enthält bis zu 2000 µg Vitamin E pro 100 g. In den Membranen aller Körperzellen ist das Vitamin zu finden. Es wirkt als Antioxidans und schützt Fettsäuren davor, durch aggressive Moleküle geschädigt zu werden.
Was genießt man auf Jamaika zum Saltfish?
Mit Lauchzwiebelringen garniert servieren. Dazu werden auf Jamaika oft gekochte, grüne Kochbabanen oder Breadfruit gereicht, auch Dumplings, Rice ’n Peas oder Festival haben wir schon gesehen. Wir haben zu unserem Ackee and Saltfish Fried Plantains gegessen, was ebenfalls sehr lecker war.
